Guides: Sydney Airport Parking – The Complete Guide

Sydney Airport Parking

Sydney Airport Parking
Sydney Airport (owned by Sydney Airport Holdings Ltd) is the most expensive airport to park at in Australia. In a 2016-17 report, the airport had the highest profit margin – 72% in 2018; which meant for every $1 someone paid for parking, the airport made $.72 profit. Consequently, the airport made a mammoth $97 million in profit from parking alone last year (2018) – Melbourne Airport was next best with $86.7 million.

However, there are ways to minimise the damage on your hip pocked, especially by pre-booking online or through a third party car park.

Parking at the airport itself

Sydney Airport’s has three terminals for international and domestic flights, with runways keeping them apart. So be sure to book a car park space close to the terminal that your flight will be leaving from (or arriving at)!

There are three terminals-

  • Terminal One (T1) is used for international flights

  • Terminal Two (T2) for domestic flights (Virgin Australia/Jetstar/Tiger/Rex flights)

  • Terminal Three (T3) for Qantas domestic flights.

Availability

Car parking at Sydney airport is open 24/7, 365 days a year with car parks undercover with exceptions being rooftop parking and via Blue Emu third party parking.

Things to watch out for

Sydney Airport Parking (including Blue Emu)

  • Note there Is no direct transfer between Blu Emu and the international terminal. To get around this, one can take the free shuttle between Blu Emu and the domestic terminal and then transfer to the free bus/train service between the domestic and international terminals (note the trains run between 5am to midnight and the free bus service run between 6am to 8.50pm)

  • Note any Sydney Airport car parking booking (either online or made on the day) is valid to just one entry and one exit.

  • Bookings for Guaranteed Spaces must be made at least 6 hours prior to the nominated entry time and for minimum of four hours (with no limit on how long). Additional drive-up rates will apply if the nominated time is exceeded.

  • With Guaranteed Space, you must display the confirmation letter/email on the dashboard otherwise you may be issued with an infringement notice and your vehicle may be towed away.

Independent Operated Car Parks

  • You can cancel any booking with 24 hours notice and most of your money will be refunded (minus an administration charge)

  • The free shuttles sometimes are on demand and stick to a schedule – so there may be a long wait.

  • When arriving, some companies will direct you to the public express pick up point (which a 15 min walk from the terminal). While alternatively some will pick up from the dedicated shuttle bay which closer to the terminal.

Tips

  • Book your car park as early as possible as sometimes prices may vary and by doing this you most likely secure a parking sport with the cheapest rate available.

  • Surprisingly airport parking companies also have loyalty programs where regular customers are given additional benefits. For example, parkonking has a points based system where points earned can be redeemed on free parking and car washes – https://www.parkonking.com.au/loyalty-program/
